On Tuesday, my Love and I decided to go to a fancy restaurant in Mitte, called “Al Contadino sotto le Stelle”. We knew beforehand that it’s going to be definitely more expensive than normally, but lets face it, sometimes you need a little bit of luxury, don’t you?
Of course we booked a table, and after waiting a short time we took seat at a nice candle lighted table for two in the back of the restaurant. The place was crowded. The long tables for at least 10 people were packed and the ambiance was jolly. We ordered two glasses of Chardonnay and “Insalata tiepida di polipo e patate”, a warm salad made out of potatoes and calamari for 12,50 € as a starter. As main course, my Love chose the “Ravioli ripieni di sogliola e gamberi all´erbette”, Ravioli stuffed with sole on cream-herbage sauce with roe on top of it for 15,50 €, and I took the “Ravioli farciti con zucca, ricotta e mostarda al burro e grana”, Ravioli filled with pumpkin, ricotta with butter and parmesan for 13,50 €. As you can imagine, the food was lovely. The combination of the starter made me like calamari for the first time, and our main courses tasted very good as well (except I would have preferred less parmesan on top of my ravioli). But, to be honest, I’m not sure if we will go there again. Besides the prices, there were some more difficulties you have to face, which decrease the ingredients for a perfect evening. First of all, don’t look at the ceiling! It’s hilariously ugly. I think they tried to create something like “a dinner right under the starry sky”, but, well, didn’t work out. So just don’t look up. But the problem is, when you look down, you see, on top of a really nice plaid tablecloth, a kind of waxed paper coating your arms start to stick on, if you leave them on that longer than one minute. What the hell? Isn’t there enough money left to bring the tablecloth to a lavation? Gave me a bit of a fast-food feeling. To get a real Italian feeling I guess, the air was muggy and hot and after five minutes I felt sorry for not bringing my fancy Coppa Cabana bikini. Anyway, so we worked ourselves through the menu, completely in Italian. Unfortunately we didn’t have enough money to get as drunk as it takes to speak Italian fluently. It was hard, but after half an hour and a few stupid questions we finally made it. But to be fair, the waiter was nice, the food was good, came in time and we were saturated in the end. So if you like to go there, don’t forget to book on time, don’t expect too much from the interior and take it easy. Perhaps you’re not as complicated as I am with these things.
