On Tuesday, my Love and I decided to go to a fancy restaurant in Mitte, called “Al Contadino sotto le Stelle”. We knew beforehand that it’s going to be definitely more expensive than normally, but lets face it, sometimes you need a little bit of luxury, don’t you?
Of course we booked a table, and after waiting a short time we took seat at a nice candle lighted table for two in the back of the restaurant. The place was crowded. The long tables for at least 10 people were packed and the ambiance was jolly. We ordered two glasses of Chardonnay and “Insalata tiepida di polipo e patate”, a warm salad made out of potatoes and calamari for 12,50 € as a starter. As main course, my Love chose the “Ravioli ripieni di sogliola e gamberi all´erbette”, Ravioli stuffed with sole on cream-herbage sauce with roe on top of it for 15,50 €, and I took the “Ravioli farciti con zucca, ricotta e mostarda al burro e grana”, Ravioli filled with pumpkin, ricotta with butter and parmesan for 13,50 €. As you can imagine, the food was lovely. The combination of the starter made me like calamari for the first time, and our main courses tasted very good as well (except I would have preferred less parmesan on top of my ravioli). But, to be honest, I’m not sure if we will go there again. Besides the prices, there were some more difficulties you have to face, which decrease the ingredients for a perfect evening. First of all, don’t look at the ceiling! It’s hilariously ugly. I think they tried to create something like “a dinner right under the starry sky”, but, well, didn’t work out. So just don’t look up. But the problem is, when you look down, you see, on top of a really nice plaid tablecloth, a kind of waxed paper coating your arms start to stick on, if you leave them on that longer than one minute. What the hell? Isn’t there enough money left to bring the tablecloth to a lavation? Gave me a bit of a fast-food feeling. To get a real Italian feeling I guess, the air was muggy and hot and after five minutes I felt sorry for not bringing my fancy Coppa Cabana bikini. Anyway, so we worked ourselves through the menu, completely in Italian. Unfortunately we didn’t have enough money to get as drunk as it takes to speak Italian fluently. It was hard, but after half an hour and a few stupid questions we finally made it. But to be fair, the waiter was nice, the food was good, came in time and we were saturated in the end. So if you like to go there, don’t forget to book on time, don’t expect too much from the interior and take it easy. Perhaps you’re not as complicated as I am with these things. To find some presents for my love, my friends and my family, I went to a small shop in Mitte today, which I knew had all kinds of stationeries. It´s calle R.S.V.P, which means “Répondez s`il vous plait”. For those of you, whose French isn’t any good, it means in short: Please reply.
R.S.V.P. was founded in 2001 and is managed from Meike Wander since 2004. They have all kinds of rare and unusual stationeries from all over the world, Moleskine books, pens, pencils, fountain pens, wrapping paper, cards and so on. This is an embroidery postcard. It comes with a needle and red fibre, so you can stick your travel route in it. You can get it for Germany, Europe or the whole world. From up left to down right: picnic cutlery, pink rubber bands, Caran d'Ache metall-biros, Koh-I-Noor coulourpens (all pictures above taken from http://www.rsvp-berlin.de) For my loved ones, I got two fountain pens from Kaweco, some small notice books in several colours and a nice elephant card with envelope. I hope they’ll like them. R.S.V.P Papier in Mitte Mulackstrasse 14 10119 Berlin 030/28094644 Mo-Fri 12am-7pm Sat 12am-6pm http://www.rsvp-berlin.de ... link (0 Kommentare) ... comment Sonntag, 7. You know what is really nice? There seem to be some people in Berlin who really care for the design of their environment, and try to transform everyday things to nice details in everyday life.
Like this traffic light for cyclists I saw on my daily walk through town today. How lovely. Don´t you think? ... link (0 Kommentare) ... comment 20:33h
Today, I want to introduce you to one of my favourite Berlin fashion brands: “Reality Studio”.
“Reality Studio” is Svenja Specht, a young fashion- and product- designer from Berlin. She creates all kinds of clothes, like amazing dresses, skirts, trousers, shirts and accessories like necklaces, scarves, hats jewellery etc. I own a few pieces, and I really do love them. They are special, interesting, innovative and of very good quality. The name “Reality Studio” refers to the concept of the “reality studio” by William S. Burroughs. link For him, reality is not a product of a neutral dialectic of the world, even more, it is a subjective, interest-orientated construction, produced in a studio. The Challenge of the artist, the human being is to realize this matter of fact and to design a new reality. There are two aspects of Burroughs theory, which can be seen clearly in the work of Svenja Specht: The “Cut-Up”, the “re-mix” of memories, impressions, experiences, and the “culture jamming”, to intervene in the cultural discussion, the “storm of the studios”, bringing your own world into it. (all pictures taken from http://www.realitystudio.de ) Unfortunately, “Reality Studio” has no store or online-shop, but you can get the clothes in a few different shops, just check the web-site for a store near you. In Berlin, “Reality Studio” is sold at Best Shop. last night I went to a book-release in berlins best book-store (if you´re looking for art, architecture, fashion, magazines etc) called "pro qm". it wasn´t that exciting, so we decided to go to a bar around the corner. on the way, my eyes were catched by this galery called "Lena Brüning".
the wall just looks amazing. like skin. the artist is an American called John von Bergen. to quote the description on the web-site: "His new installations reveal a relationship between objects and forms that shift from the representative to the abstract, exposing actions of distress that offer more questions than answers." the exhibition is called "the Itch" and it is on til the 13th of october. I`ve been in a bar recently, to have a few drinks with my friends. It´s called "lining" and is situated in Berlin-Mitte. It´s a very stylish bar, with large leather couches, dark wood, you know these kind of bars. interiour architects have done a good job, but in the end, they all kind of look similar. the bar was packed with people, standing and lying around, boozing, some low-key dancers. and as i lied at one of these couches, a gin-tonic in my hand, i spotted this nice silhouette on the wall, proclaiming the sweet faineance. they got a point! yesterday, my boy and I went out for food. we ended up in a bar called 103, on the corner of kastanienallee and zionskirchstr. I must confess, the only thing I like in this bar is the food. you really can forget the rest, unless you want to meet a bunch of semi-famous, semi-hip people, whos self-conscious is most of the times higher than their income. some people even call it café munich, because of the high level of presumptuousness. but anyway. the food is really lovely. they have several classic dishes like "wiener schnitzel", "ceasars salad"(in fact, the best I ever ate) and the "club sandwich", some asian food like soup and saté-sticks and a few changing dishes, like pasta, fish and meat. their breakfasts are really good, too. the only thing disturbing the heaven of lovely food in good servings are the prizes. they are, speaking for berlin, pretty high (schnitzel with potatoe-salad 13,50€, Ceasars Salad 8,50€). that, and the people, keep me from going there more often. 103 Bar Kastanienallee 49 10119 Berlin 030/48492651 ... link (0 Kommentare) ... comment Donnerstag, 4.
